Sir Michael Savory - Biography
Michael Savory has been involved in the financial services sector all his business life. He is an Associate of the Society of Investment Professionals and a Fellow of the Securities & Investment Institute. His stockbroking career as analyst, fund manager and in corporate finance concluded as chairman of HSBC Bank, Stockbroker Services during which time he was also chairman of ProShare a charity involved in financial education.
In 2006 on behalf of HSBC he took up the role of Chief Executive of Young Enterprise UK which delivers enterprise education to over 5,500 primary and secondary schools throughout the country. In the 2007-08 academic year 350,000 students took part in its enterprise programmes in the United Kingdom and 9.5 million students globally, in 120 countries, through its involvement with Junior Achievement Worldwide. The core principal of its activities is “Learning by Doing” with the programmes being delivered to the students with the active involvement of people from business.
He was for many years on the council of two other national charities and was Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2004-2005 receiving a knighthood for his services. In 2006 he was appointed Honorary Colonel of The London Regiment. He lives in both London and Norfolk where his interests include a large collection of military vehicles, The Muckleburgh Collection which he founded in 1988.
